The Emmarentia Dam is situated near the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens. This dam was built for the Geldenhuys family by landless Boers after the Anglo-Boer wars. It was named after Louw Geldenhuys’ wife Emmarentia. There are rolling lawns for families to enjoy a picnic on and wooden benches for you to have a contemplative moment while you sit and enjoy the twittering of birds. Many individuals enjoy water sports on the dam and you can often see canoeists from the club practicing. For the keen birder, you can see many different kinds of waterfowl on the dam.
